Tesla converts Fremont Model S/X line into Optimus Gen 3 robot factory
Tesla is repurposing its Fremont Model S/X production line for Optimus Gen 3 humanoid robots. Production start targeted for late July/August 2026, after final Model S/X units shipped in early May. Musk has not given a 2026 production target — output expected to ramp slowly with 10'000 unique parts in a new line. Long-term Fremont capacity: 1M units/year. Second factory at Gigafactory Texas targets 10M units/year. Gen 3 hands (50 actuators, 22 DoF) are production-ready. High-volume scaling planned for 2027.
